A Refresher Course on “Rizzoli & Isles”

The time between TV seasons is long and it’s easy to forget things.  I’m here to refresh your memory on TV shows before they premiere so you don’t have to. Next up is the second season of TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles,” which premieres tomorrow at 10pm.

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander return as police officer Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles, respectively.

Throughout the season, we got some insight into these women, especially Jane’s horrific past encounter with Michael Massee‘s uber-creepy serial killer Charles Hoyt. He was fantastic in the role, and I hope we get a few more appearances this season.

The premiere will pick up after the stellar finale, in which the police precinct was invaded by gunmen and Jane was take hostage by a dirty cop.  There  will certainly be some fallout after Jane’s brother Frankie (Jordan Bridges) experienced near death from a gunshot wound in the line of duty and Jane shot herself in order to stop the man holding her at gunpoint.

Watch for the arrival of Jane’s delinquent brother Tommy, played by Colin Egglesfield (The CW‘s Melrose Place, Something Borrowed), freshly released from prison after hitting a priest in a crosswalk while under the influence.

Jacqueline Bisset will also star as Maura’s mother, Constance, hopefully giving more insight into Maura’s past. We already saw Maura discover the true identity of her father, an Irish mob boss, in one of last season’s episodes.

Here’s hoping for more witty banter and more love interests for my favorite Boston crime solvers, as well as more screen time for supporting cast members such as fresh recruit Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young) and veteran cop Korsak (Bruce McGill).

That wraps up this class period. Check out the next installment of A Refresher Course, coming soon.
